Thanks to her employer, Oxfordshire NHS Foundation Trust, Julie Evans is looking forward to developing her career, having completed a Health and Social Care Foundation Degree at City of Oxford College (part of Activate Learning).
The course has helped Julie increase her knowledge in many aspects of health care: ‘I’m learning very useful practical skills with a thorough grounding in relevant theory. I’m currently studying Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology and Sociology and I’m enjoying it all. I feel stretched by the academic rigour and getting to grips with academic writing. I study with a cohort of almost forty students and we work and support each other well.’
Julie enjoyed the student experience at college, the facilities and the atmosphere: ‘City of Oxford College is perfectly placed for travel, shopping and socialising. The campus has a relaxed feel, with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. The library is also well stocked.’
Julie has words of advice for anyone who is thinking of enrolling in the Health and Social Care Foundation Degree: ‘Be prepared for hard work but remember to make friends and enjoy the experience. You can do it!’
She now plans to continue working with her current employer in a new role as Assistant practitioner.
