Ryan had studied Level 3 and HNC Engineering at another college but due to being an Electrical/Electronic Apprentice at a local employer, needed to continue his studies to a higher level to top up his HNC to an HND.
Because he was working alongside his studies and being sponsored by his employer, Ryan opted for part-time study. He is coming to college one day per week for two years. This was the best way for him to continue his studies without compromising too much on his daily work routine.
He also values the opportunity to learn about the theory of engineering alongside his work and being able to then apply that knowledge in his day to day work.
Ryan said: “Programming is an area I am not familiar with, so has been good to study. It is helping me to understand automation testing techniques, which are very relevant for my job building and testing gas detection instruments.”
The HND course is helping Ryan to engage with others in similar working environments so they can learn from each other and how the theory is applied in their various workplaces.
After completing the course, Ryan hopes to progress to an Engineering Technician role.
