Maintaining a respectful and inclusive community for everyone at Activate Learning

Activate Learning has been reviewing the recent UK Supreme Court ruling relating to the definition of women under the Equality Act (2010).

We recognise that our staff and students may have questions about what this means for them and our shared spaces.

We want to reassure everyone that Activate Learning remains fully committed to providing an inclusive, respectful and supportive environment for all.

At this stage, Activate Learning will maintain its current inclusive practices while monitoring the situation closely. Specific guidance for schools and colleges has not yet been published by regulatory bodies, such as the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and the Department for Education (DfE).

We will continue to keep everyone informed of any updates once official guidance becomes available. In the meantime, if anyone requires support or has specific concerns, please reach out to support services, wellbeing teams or safeguarding teams who are here to help you.

Thank you for helping us maintain a respectful, inclusive community for everyone at Activate Learning.

If you would like to speak to someone about this, there are a number of external organisations that can help:

  • Switchboard – this is a phone line available to people of all ages, run by people from the LGBTQIA+ community, to listen to and support you, as well as signposting to other helpful services.
  • Gendered Intelligence – this phone line is for people over 18, but they have a huge range of services, including online support groups for children and young people aged 8-25 in age-appropriate groupings. They also have lots of online support for adults and those awaiting gender affirming care.
