World Health Day 2025

World Health Day, celebrated on Monday 7 April 2025, will kick off a year-long campaign on maternal and newborn health.

The campaign, titled Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures, will urge governments and the health community to ramp up efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and to prioritise women’s longer-term health and wellbeing.

Campaign goals

  • To raise awareness about gaps in maternal and newborn survival and the need to prioritise women’s longer-term wellbeing.
  • To advocate for effective investments that improve the health of women and babies.
  • To encourage collective action to support parents as well as health professionals who provide critical care.
  • To provide useful health information relating to pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period.

On the Access to HE Midwifery pathway you will learn about a range of health-related issues such as health promotion and acute and chronic illnesses. You will also research cultural and environmental influences on health.

You will gain an understanding of the historical context of health and develop this by using psychological, sociological and biological perspectives.

Courses for 16-18 year olds

T Level in Health (Adult Nursing)

T Levels are two year, technical study programmes, designed with employers to give you the skills industry needs. You take just one T Level, which is equivalent to three A Levels.

This course covers all aspects of working in the health sector and combines a mix of college-based study, training in simulated environments, work experience in your first year and a 45-day Hospital Industry Placement in your second year, alongside mandatory training within the hospital setting.

The T Level qualification is designed with occupational specialisms in mind specific to clinical care, unlike the BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care, which is a more generalised qualification.

The T Level qualification is very much for those that already know that they would like to pursue a pathway in clinical health.

Not only will it help you kickstart a career in exciting sectors as you learn the skills needed to progress, but you will also be given the opportunity to gain English, Maths and IT qualifications alongside the programme.

At the end of the course, you can progress to a higher-level health and social care study programme at college, or onto an apprenticeship. We can give you advice and information to help you plan your next step, whether you would like to study another course in the college or somewhere else or are looking to enter employment.

Early Years Pathway

If you want to work in the early years sector, this pathway provides you with a clear route into this rewarding industry.

Our programmes combine theoretical study in college with significant practical experience, preparing you to work competently, safely and effectively with children and their families in a wide range of environments.

You will be expected to attend work placements in a variety of settings for two days per week, which will build to a total of up to 650 hours of experience every year. During work placements, you will gain the confidence to plan and evaluate activities and develop excellent observation skills.

Experience is a key feature that employers look for and your time spent on work placements will be invaluable in putting you ahead of the competition.
